The term is derived from the Latin word tri, which means three.

Definition:

Defined as a polyamorous relationship/ union with exactly three people. In a true triad, all members are sexually and emotionally involved with every other member. The most common formula for a triad consists of one woman and two bisexual men or one man and two bisexual women.

Example:

Kevin was trying to explain to his friends how his triad relationship worked.



“I’m heterosexual, but Linda and Beth are bisexual. So I’m attracted to both of them, and they’re both attracted to me as well as each other.”



Kevin’s friends were jealous after he explained.
